If Your Unemployment Claim Is Denied

Read the date on your notice first. The deadline runs from it.

Appeal deadlines

California 30 days from the mailing date of the notice. File form DE 1000M or a letter at the address in the notice.

New York 30 days from the date of the determination. The notice tells you how to ask for a hearing.

Pennsylvania 21 calendar days after the date on the notice. Online, by form, or by letter. The last day is printed in the notice.

While you wait

☐ Keep certifying every week or two weeks, as your state requires.

☐ Keep your work search log and any papers about why you lost your job.

☐ Late? California accepts a late appeal if you explain why. Elsewhere, ask the office in the notice.
