Before your last day
• Return equipment: [LAPTOP, BADGE, KEYS, CARDS].
• Share passwords and access through the official process — never in the letter.
• Ask HR in writing about final pay, unused PTO, benefits end date, COBRA and your 401(k).
• Update your personal contact details for your W-2.
• Ask your manager whether they will serve as a reference.
GOOD TO KNOW — delete this page before sending
• In most US jobs employment is at will: two weeks is a professional custom, not a federal rule. Check your employment contract, offer letter or union agreement — some set a different notice period.
• Count two weeks from the day you hand in the letter. The page calculator shows the date.
• When the final paycheck is due depends on your state; federal law does not set a deadline.
• Keep the letter short and positive. Complaints belong in an exit interview, if anywhere.
• In Layers you can send the letter with tracking and see when your manager opened it; you keep a dated copy.
