EWS Certificate Checklist

Income and Asset Certificate. Rules and forms differ by State. Applicant: [Applicant name]. State: [State].

1. What you need

☐ You are not covered by reservation for SC, ST or OBC.

☐ Family income from all sources is below ₹8 lakh in the financial year before you apply.

☐ The family does not own 5 acres or more of farm land, a flat of 1,000 sq ft or more, or a plot of 100 sq yd or more in notified municipalities (200 sq yd or more elsewhere).

☐ Family means you, your parents, siblings under 18, spouse and children under 18. Property in different places is added together.

☐ Ask your office for its list. Puducherry’s form, for example, asks for proof of assets, ration card, Voter ID or Aadhaar, salary certificate, tax return, PAN and caste proof.

2. The form

– Your State’s own form. Check that the certificate follows the central format: Annexure-I, “Income & Asset Certificate”.

3. Your application

– Fill in family income and assets. Some States ask for a self-declaration or affidavit: Form-II in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. Use our declaration sheet as a draft.

4. Where to file

– The office your State names, at Tehsildar level or above in Uttar Pradesh; DM, SDO or Circle Officer in Bihar. Ask about the State’s online portal.

5. Time limits

– Issue time: ask your office. We found no official period for EWS.

– Validity: read “valid for the year” on your certificate. Bihar: 1 year from issue. Some recruiters set their own dates, so check the notice.

6. Keep it and renew

– Keep the original and a scan. A false certificate can end a job or admission.
